When shall we use antibiotics for treatment?

The PCT (procalcitonin) might tell you. Despite the common symptoms between bacterial and viral infections, PCT levels show a significant increase in most bacterial infections. When infected with a bacterial infection, a patient’s PCT level shows an acute elevation within 4-6 hours, whereas a viral infection does not show any significant increase in PCT.

As a specific and sensitive clinical marker of inflammation, PCT can monitor the progression of diseases such as sepsis, septic shock and other serious bacterial infections.

PCT is usually detected by fluorescence immunochromatography. Using the Konsung immunofluorescence Analyzer, it is able to obtain accurate PCT test results within 15 minutes, and by using disposable consumables, it can provide pollution-free testing for each patient.
