Ghaziabad conducts antibody test for beneficiaries of fully vaccinated

First, Ghaziabad will randomly test 500 people (mainly health care workers and frontline workers) who have been fully vaccinated with the Covid-19 vaccine to understand their level of antibodies against the Sars-CoV-2 virus.
“The test will begin this week, for those who are completed at least 14 days after the second injection. It will determine the level of development of antibodies in different age groups and will also help the state government make policy decisions,” district monitoring officer Rakesh Gupta Said the doctor.
The investigation was conducted on the order of the Uttar Pradesh government, which has commissioned a similar investigation in Lucknow.
Officials said they would not consider whether survey participants had been infected before. They said the samples come from the same number of men and women, from different age groups, and will be sent to the King George Medical School (KGMC) in Lucknow for testing.
The health department said that the survey will also provide the government with an indicator of whether certain people’s antibody levels have not yet formed and what measures need to be taken in the event of another wave of infections.
“This study will also reveal how long antibodies last in the body of different age groups. The higher the antibody level, the higher the protection rate against the virus. During the study period, we will mainly include frontline staff (medical staff, police and police). District officials),” said Dr. NK Gupta, Chief Medical Officer of Ghaziabad.
Although Covishield reported an effectiveness of 76%, Covaxin recently reported an effectiveness of 77.8% in its phase 3 trial. According to experts, two weeks after the second injection, antibodies against the virus will be produced in the body.
Early serological investigations (determining antibody levels) were not specifically targeted at vaccinated people.
In the first serological survey held in 11 UP cities in August last year, about 22% of people had antibodies, also known as the prevalence. The prevalence of Ghaziabad included in the survey is about 25%. At that time, 1,500 people in each city were tested.
In another survey conducted last month, 1,440 people in the city were tested. “In a survey conducted in June, state officials stated that the prevalence rate was about 60-70%. The report has not yet been officially released,” said an official familiar with developments. “The prevalence of antibodies is higher because this investigation was conducted immediately after the second wave of infection peak, which infected a large number of people in a short period of time.”
