Each oxygen cylinder and concentrator has a unique ID, and Punjab prepares for the third wave

As Punjab takes measures against the possible third wave of Covid-19, every oxygen cylinder and oxygen concentrator in Punjab (both of which require respiratory treatment) will soon receive a unique identification number. The program is part of the Oxygen Cylinder Tracking System (OCTS), an application that has been developed to track oxygen cylinders and monitor them in real time-from filling to transportation to delivery to the destination hospital.
Ravi Bhagat, the board secretary of Punjab Mandi, who was entrusted to develop the app, told the Indian Express that OCTS has been piloted in Mohali and will be rolled out across the state next week.
Bhagat is the person behind the Cova app launched during the pandemic. The app has a range of features, including tracking Covid cases and real-time information about nearby positive cases. He said OCTS will track the movement of oxygen cylinders and oxygen concentrators.
According to OCTS, cylinders and concentrators called “assets” will be uniquely identified using the supplier’s QR code label.
The application will track oxygen cylinders between filling machines/aggregators to designated end users (hospitals and clinics) in real time, and the status will be provided to the authorities on the central portal.
“OCTS is a step forward in preparing for the third wave of Covid. It will not only benefit citizens, but it is also very useful for administrators,” Bhagat said.
Real-time tracking will help detect and avoid theft, and reduce delays through improved coordination.
# The supplier will use the OCTS app to initiate a trip with location, vehicle, consignment and driver details.
# The supplier will scan the QR code of the cylinder to be added to the itinerary and mark the consignment as full.
# The location of the equipment will be automatically verified by the app. The number of cylinders will be subtracted from the inventory
# When the goods are ready, the supplier will start the journey through the app. The cylinder status is moved to “Transporting”.
# The delivery location will be automatically verified using the application, and the cylinder status will automatically be changed to “Delivered”.
# The hospital/end user will use the app to scan and load empty cylinders. The cylinder status will change to “empty cylinder in transit”.
