Covid 19: Malaysia’s self-test kit and how it works

This month, the Ministry of Health of Malaysia has conditionally approved the import and distribution of two Covid-19 self-test kits: the Salixium Covid-19 rapid antigen test kit from Reszon Diagnostic International Sdn Bhd, a manufacturer of in vitro diagnostic rapid test kits, and the Gmate Korea Philosys Co Ltd’s Covid-19 quick test. These kits are all priced at RM39.90 and are available at registered community pharmacies and medical institutions.
In a Facebook post on July 20, Malaysian Health Minister Tan Sri Noor Hisham stated that these self-test kits are not intended to replace RT-PCR tests, but to allow the public to conduct self-screening to understand the status and eliminate their problems immediately. Covid-19 infection.
Read on to learn more about how the rapid antigen test kit works and what to do after a positive Covid-19 result.
The Salixium Covid-19 Rapid Antigen Test is a combined nasal and saliva swab test, which is less invasive than the RT-PCR test and can display results in about 15 minutes. Each kit contains a disposable swab for a single test, a waste bag for safe disposal, and an extraction buffer tube into which the nasal swab and saliva swab must be placed after the sample is collected.
The kit also comes with a unique QR code, supported by Salixium and MySejahtera applications, for report results and test tracking. According to the requirements of the Ministry of Health, the results of this rapid antigen test must be recorded through MySejahtera. The test has an accuracy rate of 91% (sensitivity rate of 91%) when it produces a positive result, and 100% accuracy (a specificity rate of 100%) when it produces a negative result. The shelf life of the Salixium Covid-19 quick test is approximately 18 months. It can be purchased online on MedCart or DoctorOnCall.
The GMate Covid-19 Ag test should be performed within five days of the onset of symptoms. The saliva swab test includes a sterile swab, a buffer container, and a test device. It takes about 15 minutes for the results to show up as positive, negative, or invalid on the test device. Tests that are shown as invalid must be repeated using a new test suite. The GMate Covid-19 test can be booked on DoctorOnCall and Big Pharmacy.
According to the guidelines of the Ministry of Health, individuals who test positive with the self-test kit must immediately bring the test results to the Covid-19 assessment center or health clinic even if they do not show any symptoms. Individuals who test negative but show Covid-19 symptoms should go to a health clinic for further measures.
If you are in close contact with a confirmed Covid-19 case, you will need to self-quarantine at home for 10 days.
