COVID-19: How to use an oxygen generator at home

In many places, the management of COVID-19 is severely hampered because patients cannot find a bed. As hospitals become overcrowded, patients have to take the necessary measures to take care of themselves at home-this includes using oxygen generators at home.
The oxygen generator uses air to filter oxygen, which is the best solution for household oxygen supply. The patient gets this oxygen through a mask or cannula. It is usually used for patients with respiratory problems and ongoing COVID-19 crisis, and is very useful for patients with decreased oxygen levels.
“A concentrator is a device that can provide oxygen for several hours and does not need to be replaced or refilled. However, in order to help people replenish oxygen, people need to know the correct way to use an oxygen concentrator,” Gulgram Fortis Memorial Said Dr. Bella Sharma, deputy director of the Institute of Internal Medicine.
One thing to remember is that concentrators should only be used if recommended by a doctor. The oxygen level is determined using a device called a pulse oximeter. If the oximeter shows that a person’s SpO2 level or oxygen saturation is below 95%, supplemental oxygen is recommended. Professional advice will make it clearer how long you should use oxygen supplements.
Step 1-When in use, the condenser should be kept one foot away from any objects that may look like obstacles. There should be 1 to 2 feet of free space around the inlet of the oxygen concentrator.
Step 2-As part of this step, a humidification bottle needs to be connected. If the oxygen flow rate is greater than 2 to 3 liters per minute, it is usually prescribed by a professional. The threaded cap needs to be put into the humidification bottle in the outlet of the oxygen concentrator. The bottle needs to be twisted until it is firmly connected to the outlet of the machine. Please note that you should use filtered water in a humidification bottle.
Step 3-Then, the oxygen tube needs to be connected to the humidification bottle or adapter. If you do not use a humidifying bottle, use an oxygen adapter connecting tube.
Step 4-The concentrator has an inlet filter to remove particles from the air. This needs to be removed or changed for cleaning. Therefore, before turning on the machine, always check whether the filter is in place. The filter must be cleaned once a week and dried before use.
Step 5-The concentrator needs to be turned on 15 to 20 minutes before use, as it takes time to start circulating the correct air concentration.
Step 6-The concentrator uses a lot of power, so an extension cord should not be used to power the device, it should be connected directly to an outlet.
Step 7-After the machine is turned on, you can hear the air being processed loudly. Please check if the machine is working properly.
Step 8-Make sure to find the lift control knob before use. Can be marked as liters/minute or 1, 2, 3 levels. The knob needs to be set according to the specified liters/minute
Step 9-Before using the concentrator, check for any bends in the pipe. Any blockage may cause insufficient oxygen supply
Step 10-If a nasal cannula is used, it should be adjusted upwards into the nostrils to obtain a high level of oxygen. Each claw should be bent into a nostril.
In addition, make sure that the door or window of the room is open so that fresh air circulates continuously in the room.
