CCF Mandatory Ban Covid-19 Antibody Rapid Test Kit

Officials from the General Directorate of Consumer Protection, Competition and Fraud Fighting (CCF) launched a campaign on June 29 to implement the Ministry of Health’s ban on the sale of Covid-19 antibody rapid test kits in the capital market and pharmacies.
CCF Phnom Penh branch manager Heng Maly told the Washington Post on June 30 that officials inspected 86 pharmacies around the Olympic and Phsar Tapang markets in three areas-Boeung Keng Kang, Prampi Makara and Daun Penh.
“After checking and inquiring with suppliers, we found that pharmacies around the main markets did not sell Covid-19 antibody test kits.
“However, we remind all pharmacies not to sell test kits that are not approved by the Ministry of Health,” he said.
He said that officials also advise all traders and pharmacies that if they receive information or see Covid-19 antibody test kits being sold, they must report the incident to the authorities or the Ministry of Health.
In a notice earlier this month, the Ministry of Health stated that the Covid-19 antibody rapid test kits circulating on the market have not been registered with the Ministry of Health and have not been approved by the World Health Organization (WHO).
The ministry announced on June 21 that it would ban the distribution and sale of Covid-19 antibody test kits that were not approved by the ministry, and warned of severe retaliation against any private medical services that continue to use them.
The ban was issued after four Facebook accounts-bong pros ti pi, Leng Kuchnika Pol, Srey Nit, TMS-Trust Medical Services-sold test kits without registration numbers and without permission from the Ministry of Health.
The WHO representative in Cambodia Li Ailan told reporters on June 23 that there is no need to test for antibodies after the Covid-19 vaccine.
She said that all the vaccines vaccinated so far have been approved by the WHO, and have passed scientific tests and proved their safety and effectiveness.
